Measuring Red Tape

Stenning & Associates, assisted by KPMG, developed a report titled Measuring Red Tape - Understanding the Compliance Burden on Tasmanian businesses. This report was used by the Tasmanian Department of Economic Development, Tourism and the Arts to inform the Tasmanian Government's Red Tape Action Plan, which was launched by the Minister for Economic Development on 28 February 2013.

The project involved initially analysing the legislative environment facing Tasmanian businesses. An online survey of broad compliance burden costs was then undertaken, together with some detailed Regulatory Change Measurement based analyses on specific regulatory areas.

The online survey is, to our knowledge, one of the most comprehensive business compliance surveys ever conducted in Australia. It attracted 771 responses, of whom over half provided detailed information on at least one state-based regulatory area.
